Dimassi {Study of the stabilizer influence on the structural and optical properties of sol-gel spin coated zinc oxide films}. Vol. 74. Materials Science in Semiconductor Processing, 74. Elsevier Ltd, 2018. Abstract

In this work, we highlight the influence of three different sol stabilizers, namely diethanolamine (DEA), Ammonium Hydroxide (NH4OH), and Nitric Acid (HNO3), on the optical and structural properties of spin-coated zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films. The XRD patterns related to all films exhibit a hexagonal crystal structure with a preferential orientation along the (0 0 2) direction. However an additional {\textless}100{\textgreater} peak arises when the films are prepared with DEA and NH4OH showing a better crystallinity than that displayed by HNO3-prepared films. The elaborated films show a high transparency reaching 80{%} for DEA-prepared films. The analysis of the transmittance and the reflectance measurements confirms a direct band-to-band transition. Depending on the sol stabilizer, the optical band gap energy is varying from 3.16 to 3.22 eV. The relatively wide band-gap of DEA-prepared ZnO films is correlated to their high crystallinity. Room temperature photoluminescence spectra indicate strong UV emission at around 377 nm originated from nearby band-edge transitions. Yet, the use of DEA as a stabilizer leads to a net intensity increase of the blue peak emission.

Bashir, {Safia Babikir}, {Hasan A. } Zidan, and Stanimir Valtchev. "An Improved Voltage Ripple Control Algorithm for Modular Multilevel Converter Based Variable Speed Drive." Proceedings - 2018 IEEE 18th International Conference on Power Electronics and Motion Control, PEMC 2018. United States: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2018. 968-973. Abstract

Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is one of the most promising topologies for high power-medium voltage application. However, the use of MMC in variable speed drive applications is still limited. This is due to the fact that the fluctuation of the submodules capacitor voltage is large at low speed constant torque operation. This paper proposes an improved balancing approach based on Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM). The proposed method uses only one SVPWM, which not only simplifies the calculation but also reduces the submodules capacitor fluctuation and the circulating current in the MMC, thereby allowing the operation of MMC-based variable speed drive over the entire operating speed range and improve the converter efficiency. The closed loop operation of the MMC-based variable speed drive is verified through extensive simulations.

Nowadays technologies relate to so many aspects in our daily life that makes society eager for more and more ways of using it. To keep up with this new technological world, all economic sectors, from industry to services, are trying to adapt their products into this new reality. Presently, cultural heritage is already a field where the application of technology allows a static site to be converted into an intelligent environment, with detailed information about a specific monument or historical place, becoming more interesting, not only for local habitants, but also for tourists. This paper describes an application that allows tourists, managers and historical sites' habitants to experience a completely new way of discovering those places, offering a visit with detailed real-time information taking into account their personal interests. Tourists will have at their disposal a full set of optimized routes, combining their interests with their visiting time.

Conference Proceedings - 2017 17th IEEE International Conference on Environment and Electrical Engineering and 2017 1st IEEE Industrial and Commercial Power Systems Europe, EEEIC / I and CPS Europe 2017. United States: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2017. Abstract

The Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) systems become nowadays popular. In the same time, the Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) allow for creating the HiL with time step 1 μs or less. The FPGA usually executes the numerical operations on Fixed Point variables. That is why during the FPGA-based HiL creation process it is important to select a proper number of bits for the modeled variables. A mathematical model based on the induction motor is selected as a basis for comparative tests between the floating point model and the fixed point model. In consequence, recommendations for the Bit Capacity (the length of the digital word) selection are given, based on the obtained results.

United States: Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc., 2017. 428-433. Abstract

Hardware-in-The-loop (HiL) systems nowadays become popular. During the HiL creation process it is important to select a proper numerical method because the accuracy of the process simulation, in case of the HiL, depends on the correct numerical approach selection. That is why it is important to evaluate the most popular numerical approaches. The {"}Sequential{"} Euler (solves equations step-by-step), the Forward Euler (the most popular method for HiL creators), and the Second-order Adams-Bashforth approach are under consideration. A mathematical model based on the DC-motor with independent excitation is selected as a basis for the experimental numerical calculation. In consequence, recommendations for the numerical method selection are given, based on the obtained results.
