In this paper we extend results on Fredholmness of singular integral operators with piecewise continuous coefficients in reflexive rearrangement-invariant spaces \(X(\Gamma)\) with nontrivial Boyd indices \(\alpha_X,\beta_X\) [K98] to the weighted case. Suppose a weight \(w\) belongs to the Muckenhoupt classes \(A_{\frac{1}{\alpha_X}}(\Gamma)\) and \(A_{\frac{1}{\beta_X}}(\Gamma)\). We prove that these conditions guarantee the boundedness of the Cauchy singular integral operator \(S\) in the weighted rearrangement-invariant space \(X(\Gamma,w)\). Under a ``disintegration condition'' we construct a symbol calculus for the Banach algebra generated by singular integral operators with matrix-valued piecewise continuous coefficients and get a formula for the index of an arbitrary operator from this algebra. We give nontrivial examples of spaces, for which this ``disintegration condition'' is satisfied. One of such spaces is a Lebesgue space with a general Muckenhoupt weight over an arbitrary Carleson curve.

We construct a presymbol for the Banach algebra \(\operatorname{alg}(\Omega, S)\) generated by the Cauchy singular integral operator \(S\) and the operators of multiplication by functions in a Banach subalgebra \(\Omega\) of \(L^\infty\). This presymbol is a homomorphism \(\operatorname{alg}(\Omega,S)\to\Omega\oplus\Omega\) whose kernel coincides with the commutator ideal of \(\operatorname{alg}(\Omega,S)\). In terms of the presymbol, necessary conditions for Fredholmness of an operator in \(\operatorname{alg}(\Omega,S)\) are proved. All operators are considered on reflexive rearrangement-invariant spaces with nontrivial Boyd indices over the unit circle.

In this paper we present results concerning the optimisation of the electronic and mechanical properties presented by amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) thin films produced on polyimide (Kapton® VN) substrates with different thicknesses (25, 50 and 75 μm) by the plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD) technique. The purpose of this study is to obtain a low defect density as well as low residual stresses (specially at the interface) in order to provide good performances for large area (10 mm wide by 80 mm long) flexible position sensitive detectors. The electrical and optical properties presented by the films will be correlated to the sensor characteristics. The properties of samples have been measured by dark/photoconductivity, constant photocurrent measurements (CPM) and the results have been compared with films deposited on Corning 7059 glass substrates during the same run deposition. The residual stresses were measured using an active optical triangulation and angle resolved scattering. The preliminary results indicate that the thinner polymeric substrate with 25 μm presents the highest density of states, which is associated to the residual stresses and strains associated within the film. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. d Teixeira, V.a, Cui Meng Fortunato Martins H. N. a L. "Amorphous ITO thin films prepared by DC sputtering for electrochromic applications." Thin Solid Films. 420-421 (2002): 70-75. AbstractWebsite

Indium-Tin-Oxide (ITO) thin films were deposited on glass substrates using DC magnetron reactive sputtering at different bias voltages and substrate temperatures. Some improvements were obtained on film properties, microstructure and other physical characteristics for different conditions. Amorphous and polycrystalline films can be obtained for various deposition conditions. The transmission, absorption, spectral and diffuse reflection of ITO films were measured in some ranges of UV-Vis-NIR. The refractive index (n), Energy band gap Eg and the surface roughness of the film were derived from the measured spectra data. The carrier density (nc) and the carrier mobility (μ) of the film micro conductive properties were discussed. The films exhibited suitable optical transmittance and conductivity for electrochromic applications. © 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Moniz, António, and Manuel M. Godinho A análise prospectiva como ferramenta de política de inovação: uma perspectiva socioeconómica[Foresight analysis as an innovation policy tool: a socio-economical approach]. University Library of Munich, Germany, 2001. Abstract

At the last National Conference of Industrial Sociology in Portugal (in March 1999) was presented a paper on the topic of “foresight as a technology and employment policy instrument” (A.B. Moniz) where there was a reference to the need of development of this kind of tools and instruments. This need is clear when one should neutralize the negative effects of such policies, and could support the positive influences, especially with the main aims of improvement of quality of working life. Thus, is today possible to make a first balance of the application in Portugal of a type of foresight analysis exercise: the Delphi method. After some of the uses of this method in Portugal on the fisheries socio-economical system and on the relation between information society and employment, we present in this paper a first assessment of such experiments and present some recommendations for future uses of this foresight technique. We conclude that they must be applied within the context of socio-economical perspectives, and not only the technological ones, although they should include that dimension.
