quality evaluation of software components and component assemblies.
Method: Comparison of several approaches available in the literature, using a framework
comprising several aspects, such as scope, intent, definition technique, and maturity.
Results: The identification of common shortcomings of current approaches, such as
ambiguity in definition, lack of adequacy of the specifying formalisms and insufficient
validation of current quality models and metrics for software components.
Conclusions: Quality evaluation of components and component-based infrastructures
presents new challenges to the Experimental Software Engineering community.

In the presentwork we have studied the properties of zinc oxide (ZnO) thin films grown by laser ablation of ZnO targets under different substrate temperature and background oxygen conditions. The ZnO layers were deposited with a Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) system on pre-nitrided (0001) sapphire (Al2O3), using the base line of a Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm. The films were characterized by different structural and optical methods, including X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical transmission spectroscopy, and steady-state photoluminescence (PL). XRD analysis with rocking curves and $þeta$–2$þeta$ scans indicates preferential growth along the c-axis direction with a full width at half maximum (FWHM) smaller than 1.5◦. Low-temperature photoluminescence (PL) showed strong excitonic emission near 3.36 eV between 9 and 65 K

Águas, H., Pereira Costa Barquinha Pereira Fortunato Martins S. D. P. "3 dimensional polymorphous silicon based metal-insulator-semiconductor position sensitive detectors." Thin Solid Films. 515 (2007): 7530-7533. AbstractWebsite

In this work we investigate the properties of a polymorphous silicon (pm-Si:H) metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) structure used in 3D position sensitive detectors (PSD). For the first time a 3D sensor made-up by pm-Si:H/SiO2/Au layers is presented. MIS structures present several advantages over p-i-n structures, such as easier fabrication, fast response time and higher resolution. The 1D MIS PSD that constitute the array were extensively studied aiming its application in 3D pattern recognition. The results obtained show that MIS PSD can achieve non-linearities below 2% and sensitivities of 3.2 μA/cm over 6 mm length sensors. The miniaturization of the sensors length to arrays of 6 and 16 mm, respectively showed average non-linearities of about 1.9% for the 16 mm sensor which proved to be the best solution for this MIS structure. © 2006 Elsevier B.V. MC, Lanca, Wirges W, Neagu ER, Gerhard R, and Marat-MendeS J. "Influence of humidity on the electrical charging properties of cork agglomerates." Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids. 353.47-51 (2007). AbstractWebsite

Cork is a natural cellular and electrically insulating material which may have the capacity to store electric charges on or in its cell walls. Since natural cork has many voids, it is difficult to obtain uniform samples with the required dimensions. Therefore, a more uniform material, namely commercial cork agglomerate, usually used for floor and wall coverings, is employed in the present study. Since we know from our previous work that the electrical properties of cork are drastically affected by absorbed and adsorbed water, samples were protected by means of different polymer coatings (applied by spin-coating or soaking). Corona charging and isothermal charging and discharging currents were used to study the electrical trapping and detrapping capabilities of the samples. A comparison of the results leads to the conclusion that the most promising method for storing electric charges in this cellular material consists of drying and coating or soaking with a hydrophobic, electrically insulating polymer such as polytetraflouroethylene (Teflon (R)).
