Mário S. Diniz (MSD) has a degree in Biological Sciences (5 yrs) by University of Porto (UP) in 1995. Until 1998, he worked as research project manager (UP). In 2000, completed an MSc degree and in 2005 completed his PhD in Environmental Sciences, both done at University NOVA de Lisboa. Afterwards, was awarded with an FCT postdoctoral grant (3 yrs) to develop research at “National Institute of Engineering and Technology” and at FCT NOVA. Following an FCT “Ciencia2008” grant, MSD undertook a position as auxiliary assistant (2009-2014) at REQUIMTE (FCT NOVA).
Then, in 2015 started a position as Auxiliary Professor at the Chemistry Department (FCT NOVA). To date MSD participated in 21 competitive research projects and as a PI, received a grant for his lab (with one of his PhD students), in a competitive call from “F. Cal. Gulbenkian”.
Mário S. Diniz is an integrated member of the “Research Unit on Applied Molecular Biosciences (UCIBIO) hosted at REQUIMTE, and is the head of the Biotox group (Chemistry Dpt., FCT-UNL), focused on Environmental Health Safety and Toxicology. Since 2009 supervised several international and national students and researchers (64 people including MSc, PhD, post-doctoral fellows and undergraduate students).
MSD is author or co-author of 8 book chapters, 127 articles in SCI journals, 3 articles in national peer review Journals, 41 articles in conference proceedings (peer-reviewed. MSD also has two national patents (PNP104176X; MUTP10362). MSD has 73 oral communications to which are added 14 presentations as invited speaker and more than 140 posters in scientific conferences. As (co)author, in 2012 was awarded with the prize "Oceano” for the best article) and in 2013 was awarded with a 1st prize in Basic Research (poster) and in 2019 was awarded with a best poster biochemistry. MSD is reviewer for several top journals and Co-editor of the J. of Integrated Omics. MSD took part on the organizing/scientific committee of 15 international conferences.
MDS was also lecturer for other national and international universities (Vigo University, Universidade Aberta) and lectures in post-graduation courses at FCT (MSc Biochemistry and MSc Biochemistry for Health, PhD Molecular Biosciences from University NOVA de Lisboa).
MSD was examiner in 34 MSc and 23 PhD theses and was also an external evaluator of competitive scientific projects (for the Swedish International Foundation for Science (2016), Egas Investiga a research program, from the Egas Moniz University Institute (2018) and the National Geographic Society (2018). Additionally, MSD is trained and credited for animal experimentation by the national (DGV) and international authorities (FELASA).
