Opportunity: paleontologists and sedimentologists needed

Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus - 3rd Edition

We are looking for a PALEONTOLOGISTS AND SEDIMENTOLOGISTS

and any other Earth Sciences topic that complement our research team: paleobotany, sedimentology, invertebrate paleontology, vertebrate paleo-histology, paleoichthyologists, ichnologist, etc.

for post-doc and advanced researchers via a competitive call at FCT funding agency, the Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus, for research contract up to six-years.

In this case, the host institution is GEOBIOTEC (Geobiociências, Geoengenharias e Geotecnologias) at the Department of Earth Sciences of the Nova University of Lisbon.

The Individual Call is aimed at PhD holders of any nationality or stateless with a background in any scientific area who wish to develop their scientific research or technological development activity in Portugal, integrated into R&D units funded by FCT.

Applicants should indicate the host institution where they will develop their research plan. The selected doctorates are directly hired by the identified host institution, through FCT funding.

The following reference levels are considered:

  1. Junior Researcher PhD holders with limited experience in post-doctoral research or without a scientific curriculum after their PhDs in the scientific area they are applying for.
  2. Assistant Researcher: PhD holders with over 5 years of professional experience, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which they are applying, with no requirement to demonstrate their scientific independence.
  3. Principal Researcher: PhD holders with over 5 years of professional experience, with a relevant curriculum in the scientific area to which he/she applies, demonstrating scientific independence over the past 3 years.
  4. Coordinating Researcher: PhD holders with over 5 years of professional experience, holding the title of habilitated or aggregated, with a CV of elevated merit in the scientific area to which they are applying, showing scientific independence and with evidence of leadership in the scientific area to which they are applying.

Applications are submitted electronically, in English, through the electronic platform to be made available in due course.

COMPONENTS OF THE APPLICATION
Applications are submitted online via a dedicated FCT web application.
The application comprises the following parts to be evaluated:

  • a) Research plan, including a rigorous selection of the main activities to be developed.
  • b) Synopsis of the scientific and curricular path, highlighting the main activities and results obtained in the last 5 years;
  • c) Curriculum vitae;
  • d) Motivation letter, identifying up to two main contributions of the candidate in the last 5 years and the expected main contributions for the next years;
  • e) Synopsis of the host conditions and description of the integration of the proposed research plan into the strategy of the associated research unit.

Duration: The duration is up to 6 year according to article 24 of Regulamento deEmprego Científico.
