This work arises from the requirement of SMAS (Almada) to make a sustainable management of its vast architectural heritage. So it was decided to make a general assessment of the conservation status of seven water towers belonging to the water supply system to the population. Accordingly to the general assessment made on the water towers it could be said that in general, the water towers are in a reasonable condition with the exception of Cassapo and Estrelinha.This analysis allowed sort priorities with regard to the rehabilitation. The Estrelinha water tower is out of service so its detailed diagnostic was not prioritized. In order to get deeper information concerning Cassapo water tower status a detailed assessment was done to identify existing problems and its origins. Data collected during the study validated the project although serious anomalies were detected, arising from the construction phase worsen by the age, which compromise its performance. Based on the comprehensive study corrective measures were presented to fix the problems encountered. A study concerning earthquake behaviour of the Cassapo water tower was proposed in order to include a structural strengthening in the rehabilitation project, in case of necessity.
