I'm an assistant professor (lecturer in UK) at the Civil Engineering Department of Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
I have a Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and a M.Sc. degree in Structural Engineering from IST, Universidade de Lisboa
My main research interests are those linked with soil and structures dynamics. So far, the applications of my research was directed to the geomechanical characterization using seismic methods, and to the dynamic and long-term modelling of railway tracks.
I have been developing a significant number of advanced computational tools to analyze the different physical problems have been dealing with in my research. Most of those programs were developed in Matlab environment. For example, I have developed a three-dimensional finite element program to analyze the dynamic of moving trains on railway tracks, considering the non-linear sleeper-ballast interaction and the non-linear constitutive behaviour of the geomaterials forming the foundation, and I have applied that program to analyze the structural behaviour of railway transitions, such as culverts and bridge approaches.
