Bio

I'm an assistant professor (as lecturer in UK) at the Civil Engineering Department of NOVA University of Lisbon.

My main research interests are those linked with soil and structures dynamics. So far, the applications of my research was directed to the geomechanical characterization using seismic methods, and to the dynamic and long-term modelling of railway tracks.

I have been developing a significant number of advanced computational tools to analyze the different physical problems have been dealing with in my research. Most of those programs were developed in Matlab environment. For example, I have developed a three-dimensional finite element program (Pegasus) to analyze the dynamics of moving trains on railway tracks, considering the non-linear sleeper-ballast interaction and the non-linear constitutive behaviour of the geomaterials forming the foundation. This program has been mainly applied to analyze the structural behaviour of railway transitions, such as culverts and bridge approaches.
