Remote Sensing of Environment

Semester:
Fall
Offered:
2014

The REMOTE SENSING OF ENVIRONMENT module is an integral part of the discipline of Environmental Monitoring Systems, included in the Master in Environmental Engineering.

It aims to teach and train students to spatially continuous monitoring of environmental events and processes, through the use of Earth observation images. After successfully completing the module, the students will be able to:
Understanding the process of acquiring an image obtained by a satellite Earth observation, and realize what kind of information an image contains;
Knowing how to use algorithms for processing satellite images;
Knowing how to derive a map of thematic classification from satellite images, and make proper use of vegetation indices;
Knowing how to define a strategy to use satellite images exclusively and / or in addition to other sources of information to monitor an event or a process on Earth;
Realize the importance of using satellite images of Earth observation for Environmental Engineering
