Duarte Dinis is Assistant Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering (DEMI) of NOVA School of Science and Technology (NOVA FCT), head of the Reliability Engineering and Maintenance Management courses. He is also Integrated Researcher at UNIDEMI and Coordinator of the Digital Innovation in Production Systems (DIPS) Laboratory.

He holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing with work performed in the development and application of Artificial Intelligence approaches to Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) industries. During his Ph.D., Duarte Dinis studied the problems affecting aviation maintenance management, particularly regarding maintenance workload forecasting and capacity planning. He is the author of several research papers addressing this topic and supervisor of several M.Sc. and Ph.D. thesis, both concluded and ongoing.

In addition, as a researcher, Duarte Dinis participated in multiple research projects, assuming different roles, from post-doc researcher, to Principal Investigator. In particular, he was the project manager of the "hSNS" research project (ref. PTDC/EGE-OGE/30546/2017), in which, besides managing tasks, he performed research on the application of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) and multicriteria methods to measure the performance of Portuguese public hospitals. He was the Principal Investigator of the “IA2M – Intelligent Immersive Aircraft Modification” research project (ref. POCI-01-0247-FEDER-070189), in which Augmented Reality tools were applied in aircraft modification projects.

Duarte Dinis holds a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in aviation maintenance. He has worked as Project Manager in the naval sector and as Maintenance Planner in aviation, function in which he developed his Ph.D.

His research interests include the application of methods within uncertainty modeling, risk, and multicriteria decision analysis to solve real industrial problems.
