Bio

Cristiano Mota is a structural biologist specializing in X-ray crystallography. He serves as Assistant Researcher at UCIBIO, the Applied Molecular Biosciences Unit at the NOVA School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA) in Portugal.

Since 2023, he has held the position of CEEC Individual Assistant Researcher.

His research focuses on metalloenzymes and their catalytic mechanisms, with a particular emphasis on molybdenum (Mo) and tungsten (W) enzymes, such as formate dehydrogenases and aldehyde oxidases. His expertise includes structural biology and time-resolved approaches to X-ray crystallography.

Throughout his career, Dr. Mota has contributed to numerous publications in the field of structural biology. Notable recent works include studies on the structural changes of W-formate dehydrogenase during catalysis and enzyme reoxidation, as well as investigations into the inhibition mechanisms of human aldehyde oxidase.
