André holds a PhD (2020) in Engineering Design and Advanced Manufacturing from the University of Minho/MIT Portugal Program consortium. Between February 2018 and February 2019, he was a Visiting Student Researcher at the Sociotechnical Systems Research Center at MIT and remained as an MIT Portugal affiliate researcher until graduation in 2020. During his time in Boston, he was also Visiting Scholar at Northeastern University (March - September 2019). From January to December 2020, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Technical University of Denmark.
In his research, he studies organizations as sociotechnical systems, with a focus on quality and performance management, organizational culture, and agility. He has sought to identify how organizations can best adapt to respond to the challenges of the world around us, with emphasis on change management and the sustainability of the ongoing business transitions. His research has been recognized by organizations such as the Industrial Engineering and Operations Management (IEOM) Society, the International Academy for Quality (IAQ) and American Society for Quality (ASQ).
