Ao longo da sua vida {\'u}til os edif{\'\i}cios hist{\'o}ricos est{\~a}o sujeitos a altera{\c c}{\~o}es de uso, a agentes ambientais e a diferentes a{\c c}{\~o}es como assentamentos do solo, inc{\^e}ndios, inunda{\c c}{\~o}es ou sismos, para os quais podem n{\~a}o estar preparados. Al{\'e}m disso, a falta de manuten{\c c}{\~a}o cont{\'\i}nua ajuda a colocar grande parte desse patrim{\'o}nio em risco devido a problemas estruturais que reduzem sua pr{\'o}pria seguran{\c c}a e a dos seus utilizadores. A preserva{\c c}{\~a}o e mitiga{\c c}{\~a}o de riscos do patrim{\'o}nio cultural constru{\'\i}do requer o uso de ferramentas confi{\'a}veis, a fim de avaliar o seu estado de conserva{\c c}{\~a}o e identificar e prevenir potenciais vulnerabilidades. Os testes destrutivos tradicionais n{\~a}o s{\~a}o poss{\'\i}veis de realizar na maioria dos edif{\'\i}cios hist{\'o}ricos, por isso {\'e} necess{\'a}rio selecionar testes n{\~a}o destrutivos (NDT) que permitam a caracteriza{\c c}{\~a}o f{\'\i}sica e mec{\^a}nica dos materiais e do comportamento da estrutura. Neste artigo apresenta-se uma vis{\~a}o geral de diferentes equipamentos e testes NDT que permitem o levantamento geom{\'e}trico e o mapeamento dos danos do edif{\'\i}cio, a an{\'a}lise petrogr{\'a}fica da pedra de alvenaria, a caracteriza{\c c}{\~a}o das propriedades f{\'\i}sicas e mec{\^a}nicas dos materiais e o comportamento estrutural do edif{\'\i}cio.
