Isabel Ferreira received the Ph.D degree in materials engineering—optoelectronics and microelectronics from the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, New University of Lisbon, Caparica, Portugal, in 2002.

She is currently Associated Professor of Faculty of Sciences and Technology, New University of Lisbon (FCT/UNL), Caparica, Portugal, and Full Member of CENIMAT and member of its executive committee. She is responsible for the R&D activity in the area of materials for energy conversion. Her main scientific interests are in semiconductor materials (processing and characterization), energy conversion, microelectronics and optoelectronics, thermoeletric thin films, oxide semiconductors, biobateries, and graphene.
