Since 2000, I am Professor in the Department of Mathematics, at the Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia/Universidade Nova de Lisboa, first as a Teaching Assistant and, after doing my Ph.D. in Mathematics in 2006, as an Assistant Professor. I am a member and the coordinator of the group on Algebra and Logic at the Centro de Matemática e Aplicações (CMA) at Universidade Nova de Lisboa. From 1998 until the beginning of 2015 I was a member of the Center of Algebra of the University of Lisbon (CAUL), being in the directive board in 2007-2015.
My main research interests are within the area of Algebra and its connections with Computer Science. More specifically, my interests have been focused on Semigroups, Automata, Rewriting Systems and Algebraic Combinatorics. In the recent years I have been focused on understanding the notion of conjugacy in semigroups and its possible generalizations and interrelations. Also, I have undertaken the study of crystals bases within a combinatorial and algebraic perspectives. I wrote a number of papers, had participated in some projects, had a couple of scholarships, and presented many talks within these subjects. I have also organized conferences, seminars and served as referee of many journals. I am currently co-supervising three Ph.D. student and one master student. For more details please see my C.V. (in preparation).
